This message is for my wife Margaret's brother John F. Hudson Lost at sea aboard submarine USS Thresher (S.S.N. - 593) April 10th 1963. John and four of his class mates all joined the Navy after graduation June 1954. John F. Hudson, Maynard P. Geise, Donald E. Geise, Phil R. Gillgan George P. Owens. They all did their boot at Bainbridge,Md. 1st Reg. 13th Battalion Company 197. Total of 83 recruits in co. July 28, 1954 to Oct. 14, 1954. John went to Class A Enginemans school in Great Lakes, Ill. Ass.station on sub tender USS Bushnell AS- 15 Key West Fl. shipped over stationed sub tender USS Fulton AS-11 New London, Conn.Volunteered for Sub school graduated May 1958 Assigned to Sub USS Jallao (SS 368) New London. Qualified Silver Dolphins 1958. Attended Nuclear Power School,then assigned to USS nuclear sub. USS Thresher S.S.N. 593. Lost while on Sea Trials off New England coast. April 10th 1963. 129 men lost. 16 Officers 96 Enlisted and 17 Civilians. " Sailors Rest Your Oars"

Att. Submarine School New London, Conn. Att advanced Sub Electrical School, Assigned To USS Conger SS 477, USS Jallao SS 368, USS Tirante SS 420. Honorable Discharge 1962.

Served at Station Hospital, Bainbridge in 1965-1966. Worked male ward and then personnel office. Scheduled trips to outpatient clinics in Bethesda and Philadelphia. Capt. Hottenstein was C.O. of hospital. Loved Port Deposit & Havre de Grace.
